The ninth edition of the Festival of the first olive oil of Jaén, which is held throughout this weekend in the center of the capital of Jaén, included this Sunday among its activities a recognition of about thirty chefs of Jaén “with whom we want to value the link between gastronomy and EVOO and highlight the use and promotion that these professionals make of our liquid gold”. This was said by Francisco Reyes, president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, which is the institution that organizes this festive event together with the Junta de Andalucía and the City Council of Jaén, in an act in which the councilor for culture, Tourism and Capital Festivities, José Manuel Higueras, and the representatives of Agriculture, Livestock, Environment and Climate Change, and Culture and Sports, Pedro Bruno and Ángel Vera, respectively , were present.
During this event, during which these restaurateurs received a distinction for their support of EVOO, Reyes praised “their commitment to EVOO and the agri-food products of the province, an essential industry for people to stay and live in our municipalities” , and remarked that “they are the visible face of a gastronomy that has become, on its own, an argument, one more claim to attract tourists to the inner paradise of Jaén”. In this sense, he pointed out that just as there are travelers who come to Jaén seduced by the natural parks; the buildings and monuments of the capital Úbeda, Baeza or Jaén; our castles; the Iberian deposits or the landscape of olive groves, more and more people decide to visit the province of Jaen for its unique culinary proposal.
The president of the Diputación abounded in the idea that “gastronomy has more and more weight in the provincial tourist offer”, an area, the culinary, in which “Jaén has many arguments”. In this regard, he recalled that there are many restaurateurs in Jaén who offer a top quality offer in their establishments, in which traditional dishes and uses are mixed with the most avant-garde cuisine.
Among them, he cites as an example the two chefs who have a Michelin star in their restaurants in the province, Pedro Sánchez and Juan Aceituno, as well as two other chefs, Juan Carlos García and Juanjo Mesa, who are among the eight candidates for the Cook Award Revelation this year.
In addition to this tribute to the chefs of the oil, who then prepared a pipirrana that the public participating in this IX Festival of the First Oil of Jaén could taste, during this Sunday day, the program of this event includes many other proposals, from the Fair of the first oils, cosmetics and handicrafts to a guided hiking route through the surroundings of the natural area of Otíñar, passing through a guided tour of the Casería de Jesús; guided oil tastings; the prize-giving ceremony for the 1st “Jaén, olive tradition” school recipe competition; a guided family sightseeing tour on the theme “The Lizard of Jaén, a legendary wall”; or a masterclass by Juan Carlos Roldán and Marcos Reguera on “The wild plants of the Jaén environment and their use in the kitchen. Oil, aromatic herbs and spices”, among others.
