Autumn brings with it many changes, before the cold weather arrives one can feel discouraged, listless and lacking in energy. The change of seasons can make us feel in “off” mode and this can happen the dreaded “emotional hunger” due to stress and anxiety.

Emotional hunger is a state in which people eat out of compulsion, not an actual need to eat. It is not a real hunger or appetite, which alerts us that our body needs nutritional resources that provide it with energy.

Emotional hunger is defined as that feeling directly related to negative emotions which causes the desire to eat (usually unhealthy foods and ultra-processed snacks) without being really hungry, simply to calm the anxiety that one has.
